One of our clients uses our VFP application with sql server 2000 in a distributed environment. They currently have 10 offices nationwide. This architecture has worked for them for many years but we are now thinking about centralizing the application in a single Datacenter and use Oracle 11g as back-end. Our application currently works against Oracle 11G so migration is not an issue, our primary concern in all this is the performance of our application in a centralized architecture. Here is where I would appreciate your input. What can I do to optimize performance of our application (besides query optimization) in this new environment? Ive read about application streaming (XenAPP, Xenocode, AppStream..) it seems very intersting but Im not sure if they can be used for complex and big application, has any of you used this? Would you recommend deploying the application in every office and just centralizing the database or having the application and the database only in the datacenter? Any personal experiences you can share about centralized environments is very much welcome.
