Is there a simple solution anywhere like just "mapping" to the web server and the appropriate directory or must I build web server software using FOXISAPI, etc.?

Foxisapi is not a must, there are lots of different ways. Personally, I think foxisapi is one of the easiest ways to put VFP on the web. Other ways are ASP but also west-wind from www.west-wind.com. Most options require you build your own VFP COM server (EXE or DLL). I suggest you take a look at the articles section of www.west-wind.com. You can gain a lot of knowledge from these articles.
