Not necessarily. This is all a matter of style now. The computer doesn't really care. Humans don't read single letters, humans read words. I'd be saying the name of the letter in my head and having to translate that to the name of the alias. That is time-consuming. Copy and paste is your friend so you're really not typing only 38 characters.
