I know what you are saying but I don't really see VFP as being "thrown away".
If MS said, "Right, we aren't selling any more licenses for VFP and not one more minute of time is being spent on the product. It's not going to run on Vista so bad luck." - that would be getting closer to "throwing it away".
We have a mature product with a data engine that rocks and a community that can extend the product as needed for the foreseeable future.
I won't be cutting up my VFP cd any time soon!
