Yes, I think Client/Server is the term regarding data transfer.

Browser interfaces appear to be clumsy compared to desktop interfaces, even the fancy Google browser interfaces (AJAX technology). Perhaps over the next few years that will change with faster internet speeds, browsers and controls.
