> I'm trying to fix a problem for a client who needs the email functionality in an existing application to work with Gmail's SSL requirement. The client where the problem started is using Google Apps for Business. The problem is actually in two parts: The most critical functionality is to send email (with PDF attachments) however another functionality is sending and receiving text emails as part of a data collection system. The 2nd item is not critical at all, as it does not appear to be used at any sites.
> In looking for solutions, I jumped to West Wind, then found that its POP3 doesn't support SSL. Another, less well-known vendor has both, but it also had a cascading set of other DLL's needed (that is, I would have to install 4th party software...yikes. Assuming that only the outgoing mail function is needed at this time, I'm thinking of punting and using CDO for "free" until a perfect solution turns up ;-). However, I'm having a hard time determining if CDO is something that will exist on any given client's Windows version (this should be limited to XP, Vista and 7) and web pages that I've found seem to suggest that there is a different setup for every combination of Windows, Office and Outlook in the known universe (and did I mention this client isn't using Office?)
> Is my perception of using CDO more complicated than it really is? Or is depending on it in a VFP application intended for future, unknown client environments asking for trouble? Thanks for any input...

I experienced troubles with Win7 + CDO, however mailing with Winsock seems to work on all Win OS versions.
