Ilya,
Like illusionist do VFP just shows a BLOB as if it is different than a memo nocptrans. Internally it is the same what has been stored. Otherwise storing as a BLOB would be waste of space. ie:

select notes, cast(notes as blob) bnotes from employee into cursor xx
? xx.notes == xx.bnotes
