In addition: I think the easiest way to populate combo's is to use arrays as source. I always initialize all combobox array's during the app initialization (SELECT DISTINCT INTO public array's). My combobox subclass searches the correct array (in the .INIT()) by its own controlsource, which is stored as reference in the array name.
