John,

If I read you right, you want to query a table that has memo fields and pull that table into Excel/Access. Take a look at the CAST() funtion.
SELECT CAST(MyTable.MemoField AS C(255)) AS MyNewCharField FROM MyTable INTO CURSOR MyCursor
EXPORT TO PUTFILE([Save As],[MyExcelFile],[xls]) TYPE XL5
