Allan

In addition to what Ken has said, there is one significant difference in working with DBF tables and a backend database. In a backend database you do not work with the complete table. In a VFP database USE YourTable gives you the ability to work with the complete table at a time. In a backend a command like SELECT * from YourTable is very inefficient in terms of network traffic. So you cannot replace the command
USE YourTable

with
SQLEXEC(YourHandle,'SELECT * FROM YourTable','YourTable')

This will technically work, but will bring your network to a standstill. You have to keep network traffic in mind for every command you send to the backend. So you will always be doing SELECT YourFieldList from YourTable Where YourCondition.
