What events contain code and what type of control? If memory serves, I ran into problems like this when I used the LostFocus event, but have not had problems using the Valid event. Depending on the control, the event can behave different based on the key used. Works the same between the GotFocus and When events - have gotten away from putting any code in the LostFocus and GotFocus events when I can help it.
