Not certain in what program/control/etc. you are seeing the small square, but will assume it is within VFP.

The small square is the default character that is shown when the ASCII/ANSI char. code does not have a printable value.

In this case it is probably the Carriage Return and/or Line feed chars (CHR(10) and CHR(13)).

Use a string replace statement like

lstr2 = STRTRAN(STRTRAN(lstr1, Chr(10), ""), CHR(13), "")

to remove the offending chars.
Bear in mind that they could also be Tabs, or any non-printable char.
