Hello,

Nope. You need Excel to work with Excel files, or perhaps a free tool like StarOffice can read Excel files. Corel has a spreadsheet program as well, but i've forgotten its name.

If you use Excel as OLE object, then you *must* have Excel installed, otherwise the OLE does not work.

Have you tried automation?
loExcel = CREATEOBJECT("Excel.Application")
loExcel.workbooks.open("c:\my documents\mysheet.xls")
loExcel.visible = .T.
