> I tried doing this and the problem of stopping the control program from continuing ceases. But now, I can't get my form to return control to the calling program. I tried using a thisform.close statement, but it seems that close isn't a method of the form. RELEASE thisform gets through, but doesn't work. What can I do to close this form?

try thisform.release instead.

What happens if you click the X in the upper right of the form (if there is one of course)? Does the form disappear like you expect?

Also: keep in mind that you must issue a CLEAR EVENTS in order to leave the READ EVENTS.
