Release() does get called, but then the debugger shows it back at the form's Init() method on the READ EVENTS line. Then I click focus on the form (or probably give it any event), at which point it closes for real - destroying its local objects and calling Unload()

Hello Ellen,

Try moving READ EVENTS in the Activate Event instead of the Init Event. Or simply try adding CANCEL in the cmdButton.Click() before calling thisform.Release(). Just a suggestion.
