Gene,

It's a good article and product bloat is not limited to software. When you go to the
grocery store, you see 12 varieties of spaghetti on the shelf, each
with a slightly different packaging and minor ingredient changes.

Now in software, often I think there's a vested interest in newness.

Look at the web development community where "responsive" webpages
that adapt to whatever device you're on are the current rage.

But I think it's overdone because I don't find responsive website that much
better than regular ones. In fact, they can be somewhat annoying. Why not
point people to a mobile phone website, a tablet website, and a PC website?

However, if you are a professional in the web development community, responsive
websites becomes a money maker for you. It's a reason to dump the perfectly good
PC website you have and fund another one from scratch!

And yes, VFP is a haven from this hysteria.
