When you are modifying a form, the 'Form' menu will appear in your toolbar. Click on the Form Menu and then 'New Property' - it's that simple!. Give the property a name (Eg. 'CurrRecNo') and it will appear in the properties window. It will be set up with a default value of FALSE but you can change that default to whatever you want - in your case, set it to 0 (zero) as the default CurrRecNo. You can then access this property using "Thisform.CurrRecno".

On the basis that you are not familiar with this, also note that you can set up a new method for the form from this menu. This is a useful way to set up procedures accessible as "ThisForm.Myprocedure". Because they appear in the Properties window, they are very visible and accessible at design stage.
