The issue is not whether Microsoft 'blocks' VFP developers, but how VFP works. Because the core database engine was not originally built using Microsoft methodology it does things a little differently from 'true' microsoft products (the difference between "compatible" and "integral"!).

For example VFP has its own memory management and does not rely on the Windows memory management tools in the same way as other products do. Its controls are not true windows controls (they do not have an HWnd). And the way in which it accesses system resources, printer, serial ports and so on is through the operating system, rather than directly.

Lots of little differences which add up things just not working quite the same way. VFP does have tools to handle all these things though, so why not just use them....?
