I don't know how to test the field which is .NULL., I have tried to test whether the field is empty, or contains something but failed. Can anyone tell me how to test a field whether it is .NULL. or not? I want to empty such field or it will crash my app.

NVL() might help you out also. It is an optimised version of :
IIF(ISNULL(myfield),"",myfield)

which helps you to not get stung by null values.
