PHP is very popular but has some serious shortcomings (no multi-threading) especially if you run it on Windows(no ISAPI). VB.net is pretty dead at this point and is basically another VFP at microsoft now. Java is too slow.

100% agree! mvc and c# is soooooo powerfull and easy to learn. We are at the end of the implementation of a web shop that communicates via Web services with existing ERP solution that was developed in VFP9. Asp.net MVC framework is the right tool for the job!
