Because using something like that, instead of using cboMyCombo.Value, I can directly check crsStates.StateAbbr or crsStates.StateName and so on (any column of cursor, whether it is part of columns or not and no datatype conversion is needed). ie: It might be:

select * from orders where country = 'USA' into cursor crsOrders

BTW, I thank you again for showing me that simple trick: you can't imagine how much code I got rid off in my forms thanks to this. Before, I always used arrays because I needed the additional < select one > item in my combos...

When I have 2 comboEmployees on the same form, I just fill the combo-property "cCursorAlias" with "xEmployees1", which will create a cursor with that name. Otherwise, left empty, it defaults to a cursor name of "xEmployees". For this special case, I don't need sys(). But as you know, I'm still a beginner and haven't yet seen much, that's why I ask.

I use sys(2015) in 2 cases:
1) In my Foxyclasses' Grids classes where I don't know what particular name would be appropriate beforehand (after all they are 3rd party classes for other developers) - may or may not have a cursorname property.
2) In cases where I would just do the query, use it in a report and dismiss (in report I don't use aliases then).
