Okay...here comes more detail

I have a view with two tables, when I have a left join (this runs also a lot faster) the view returns the dbtdet fields and matching dbtheda records, the problem is that becuase of my archiving facility that I have created for the client the query returns in certain instances a .NULL. value in a carater field, when I join the two tables with a inner join the results are perfect but it is extremely slow....... I am lost for ideas, also when I > SET FILTER TO EMPTY(TABLE.FIELD) I get the same error message that the cardno can not be .NULL. (think it might be because it is a caracter field).
