I'm using RTF ActiveX until now to create templates and generate mailing from my applications. This was due to prevent further expenses for those who didn't have Office.

At this moment because everyone has either Office or OpenOffice, I'm thinking in developing some code that allows me to:

-> Create a "text area" for the user to write down whatever he/she wants
-> Optionally to insert fields from our database that could be replaced during a mail-merge
-> Provide rudimentary tools like fonts, style (bold, italic, underlined) and paragraph formatting only
-> Create external documents as it configured to be done

I've developed a custom object to do basic stuff with either Excel or OpenOffice eg I have a method called .setcellvalue and the code within this method is responsible for doing things differently depending of which application is installed.

I'd like to hear some opinions or suggestions. Moreover, although I've looked for on the Internet, I haven't found any ActiveX or code samples to do it. If there is any commercial product that does it please tell me which.
