Your second paragraph clearly proves what I thought earlier. It really doesn't matter what others think about what the total time should be ( = your question). What seems to matter most is how you see the future potentials as they weigh against your current (other) workloads/commitments. Besides, I believe most of the really key project decision makers are always "out to lunch" themselves when it comes to figuring out time total for the by nature "invisible" works such as coding. Although the main problem is they have the tendency to think 15 is more correct when you say 50, but 40 it is if you say 100 for exactly the same thing :-)
