Since the incoming text is not going to be used at all by RTF, it isn't getting bound to an oleRtfControl... and therefore I can't use the oleControl.Text property, which does strip out the code. Is there a direct method by which I can do this (other than A- inserting an intermediate RTF control or B- building a parser)?

Thanks for your answer Jamie. That works just fine. I was hoping to avoid doing that, thinking it would be slower when I wanted speed to get through a long file. But on actually trying it, there is no appreciable slowing.

Best regards.
