The instant speed of some desktop search engines is amazing; file lists appear as fast as requested with keyword searches.

Anyone know the basis of that? Is there a special text indexing technique?

I'm experimenting with keeping memo fields (text) in a big ascii file and use functions like VFP commands like OCCURS() and at() to search as this faster than looking through files or scanning .FPT files.

Is there a super-fast serach product that can be used with vfp? It it already in .NET?

?
