Interesting how lately there has been a big increase in websites showing some details of (say) a purchase item, followed by a ...more... link. This obviously conserves space on the page whilst making it clear there is more help available.

That is exaclty what they want me to do with respect to a vfp textbox. Whilst the textbox automatically displays or does not display the scroll bars when text actually extends beyond what can be seen, my users want me to highlight a ...more... button to indicate exactly the same thing. And thus show more in another place.

There does not seem to be any built-in functionality to tell me when there is undisplayed data, and clearly it is not a simple matter of character count, because of line feeds, capitalisation and other variables.

Would any kind colleague care to suggest a simple way of detecting this?
