I found an old Foxpro Advisor article on General Fields and jpg files. The fpt gets that large because VFP stores a bitmap in the record as well. VFP does this to provide us a faster access to the image inside the general field: it is a Preview image. It is there so that, if you browse the field, the registered app does not have to launch. Instead, you will see the bitmap.
