You cannot create literal strings over 255 characters. However, you can create a big string as a string variable by concatenating multiple strings.

cString1 = 'This is a string literal - anything included between quotes or square brackets'
cString2 = 'This would be a long string that is over 255 characters'+;
' in length. We can't do that having the big string between a pair'+;
' of quotes or square brackets. We need to divide it into pieces like in this sample '+;
' and concatenate to create the big string variable. We don't even need'+;
' to count if we have exceeded 255 characters limit.'+;
'Using text ... endtext is another way and it generally is more practical as in the next sample.'

TEXT TO pcSearchUnivStr NOSHOW
(UPPER(Tbldocintr.intrid) = '' and
(UPPER(Tbldocintr.intrtype) = 'GRP')) and
UPPER(tblAccDocs.accessCode) = '1' and
UPPER(tblextfiles.filename) LIKE UPPER(m.pcSrchStrUniv+'%')
and
(?m.pnGrpOnlyMineValue = 0 and
?m.pnGrpArchValue = 0 and
tblDocIntr.intrarch = 0 and
...
ENDTEXT

pcSearchUnivStr = CHRTRAN(m.pcSearchUnivStr,CHR(13)+CHR(10),' ')
