If you have data up to 10 Gb then MS SQL is also for free. SQLite, Postgresql, firebird ... are also free. If you have more than 10 Gb of data and still your customer doesn't want to pay then probably that means your customer doesn't have valuable data you may simply use VFP. I am not sure that MySQL is for free. Last time I checked I saw pricing.
